Abstract

The objectives of the research were 1) to study the background of the culture surveillance of 4 major Buddhist way model schools in Bangkok 2) to study the current state and problemsof the culture surveillance in those schools and 3) to develop a model for culture surveillance. The schools sampled were selected using 2 criteria: must be a Buddhist school and a big school. 4 schools were selected were Bangpakok Wittayakom School, Potisarnpittayakorn School, Matthayom Wat Bungthonglang School, and Seekan (Wattananun-uppathum) School. This research is a qualitative research. Data were collected from documents, field study, interviews, observations, focus group discussions and workshops. Descriptive analysis was used to present the result. The results showed that the schools have various problems before becoming a Buddhist way model school. The reception of foreign culture in modern times and actor patterning were found.
 The study of the current state and problems school surveyed cultural space context such as local wisdom around school. The selection of student who conserve Thai tradition and culture was used to makes role model. Some problems such as the reception of foreign culture in modern times, actor patterning and friend imitation in a wrong way were found. The modeling of culture surveillance in the Buddhist way model school follows the approach of Ministry of Culture’s standardfor cultural surveillancein cultural receivingtogether with 5criterions of Buddhist waycomposed ofphysical, instructional, behavior, Buddhist way encouragementand Buddhist Sabbath activity. The result of the study showed 59 guidelines for cultural surveillance. There are guidelines to refine a student to be a moral person, be a quality person, and be a good citizen in the future.
