The Development of Learning Management Model through Self- Directed Learning Skills in Gerontological Nursing of Nursing Students of Boromarajonani College of Nursing Sanpasithiprasong

Abstract

This research was the research & development study. The purpose of this research were 1) to assess the situations and needs of the learning management, 2) to develop the learning management model through self-directed learning skills in gerontological nursing of nursing students of Boromarajonani College of Nursing Sanpasithiprasong, 3) to evaluate the effectiveness of the learning management model through self-directed learning skills. The research design of this study was included 4 phases : Phase 1: situations and needs assessment of self-directed learning skills of nurse students. Phase 2: the development of the learning management model through self-directed learning skills. Phase 3: the development and evaluation of the learning management model through self-directed learning skills in gerontological nursing of nursing students. Phase 4: the evaluation of the effectiveness of the model. The samples were fourth-years nurse students 87 samples who practiced in the community for community nursing practicum 1 subject at the first semester of 2020 academic year. The research tools were: 1) the interview form, 2) the questionnaire, 3) the self-directed learning skills assessment form and 4)the  group discussion form. Descriptive statistics were used for analyzing quantitative data, and content analysis was used to analyzed qualitative data. The research findings, There are five components of nurse students self-directed learning skills were as follows : 1) Made a personal diary, 2) built their own library or knowledge base, 3) finding knowledge sources in the community, 4) have friend or buddy who will share knowledge and 5) learned through training and practice. The results of the development of the model were found that, before the learning management and befor practice, the students had the average of self-directed learning skill evaluation score of good level ( =4.28, SD=0.92) and after the learning management and after practice, the students had the average of self-directed learning skill evaluation score of very good level ( =4.57, SD=1.11). The results of evaluating the effectiveness of model development by assessing the self-directed learning skill level score of nursing students were found that before the learning management and befor practice, most of the students, 67.82%, had good self-directed learning skills ( = 4.26, S.D.=1.03). And after the learning management and befor practice, most of the students, 65.52 percent, had very good self-directed learning skills ( = 4.52, S.D.=0.74).
