The Provincial Seals; From Semiology to Mythology

Abstract
This paper is mainly a study about the process of creating the concept and idea of the meaning of provincial seals. The study proceeds under the concept of Semiology, which is a study about sign or signage systems that communicate based on certain rules and structures. The results show that the processes of creating the provincial seals are based on a symbolic system. Pictures and words are used to illustrate clear and significant meaning and also include connotation by using the cultural values associated with the interpretation. Thus, the meaning of signs comes from the Mythology that assesses the perception of the people in that society. Mean ing is neither the truth nor natural, but it is a product from society.
