ศิลปะแห่งโรตี พื้นที่ของโรฮิงญา : โรตีกับการก่อรูปอัตลักษณ์ของโรฮิงญาในเรื่องสั้นไทย

บทคัดย่อ

The purpose of this article is to study the role of roti and the creation of Rohingya identity in two Thai short stories, namely “Rohingya Roti” by Suwichanon Rattanapimol and “The World’s Ugliest Roti Seller” by Artyasit Srisuwan. It can be concluded from the study that the Thai short stories portray Rohingya people in a role of roti sellers, giving roti an important role in creating identity and social space for Rohingya ethnicity. Roti selling job becomes a tool to profess Rohingyas through their skills in making roti to create new social awareness that significantly connects to civil sector. As a result, Rohingyas can reveal themselves in community as ordinary working people.  Notably, roti returns the voice to Rohingyas in form of dialogs exchanged while making and waiting for roti, sharing painful memories of Rakhine and Myanmar land. The voice of roti, therefore, creates wider social awareness about Rohingyas, especially being Rohingyas that become a part of the society, and able to move and cross the space to connect with other forms of society.
