Transformational Leadership of School Administrator In Lab School Project : Multi-Case study

Abstract
This study aimed 1) to investigate, and to understand the phenomenon of transformational leadership of school administrators in Lab School Project and 2) to examine the conditions of transformational leadership of school administrators. Three schools under the Office of Primary and Secondary Educational service Areas in the Northeast, obtained through a purposive sampling technique, consisted of : a large and a medium-sized secondary school, and a large primary school in Lab School Project. Data were collected through indepth interviews, observation and written records, document analysis, and focus group of key personnel and stakeholders. Triangulation was employed to confirm reliability and validation of data drawn from multiple sources. The findings were as follows. 1. The characteristics of transformational leadership of school administrators in Lab School Project comprised four categories: 1) Idealized Influence involving having vision, advanced thinking skills, good personality traits, knowledge and skills, special skills, specialization, technology knowledge, becoming a developer with democratic practices, strong ideological orientation, having clearer goals and missions, having good interpersonal skills, being a good and respected role model; 2) Inspirational Motivation comprising strong determination, honesty, having moral and ethical behaviors, transparency, building trustworthiness, substantial empirical evidence regarding work performance, self-development, strengthening resilience, creating expectation, challenges, positive thinking, better attitudes, abilities enhancement, faithfulness, an inspiring vision of the future, promoting excellent performance and work, creation of new work practices, team building, and provoking thinking; 3) Intellectual Stimulation comprised having creative thinking, developing innovative strategies, thinking systems, new process skills, supporting anywhere-anytime learning, work effectiveness focus, strengthening imagination; and 4) Individual Consideration comprised developing human competency, being a mentor and counselor, creating opportunities for new learning, recognizing individualized awareness, providing chances for capable people, supporting individual growth, developing excellence.

2. The conditions of school administrators’ transformational leadership in Lab School Project revealed that: 1) In terms of the Education Act, schools are required to effectively and efficiently manage school administration in line with education reform for the benefit of students; 2) In terms of Education Policy, schools should follow the policy of the Ministry of Education, the Office of the Basic Education Commission, the Office of Educational Service Area to improving school quality and standards of Lab School Project; 3) In terms of Education Standard and Quality, schools are required to manage quality education in accordance with standard of quality education provision; 4) In terms of School Lab Project, the standard and quality of managing schools in Lab School Project should be administered for all assigned standards for passing the School Lab Project assessment; 5) In terms of New innovation and Technology Changes, school administrators are required to specialize in and develop technology knowledge and new innovation to balance changes; 6) In terms of administration experiences, the application of various sciences and arts must be able to help develop effective and efficient administrative management.
