Comparisons of Mathematical Readiness, and Emotional Intelligence of Kindergartners Level 2 Between Who Learned Based on Brain Based Learning and HighScope Learning Approaches

Abstract

The purposes of this research were : 1) to develop plans for learning management based on Brain Based Learning and HighScope learning approaches, for kindergartners level 2, with the required efficiencies criterion of 80/80, 2) to study for the effectiveness indices of plans for learning management based on Brain Based Learning and HighScope learning approaches, and 3) to compare mathematical readiness, and emotional intelligence of Kindergartners level 2 between who learned based on Brain Based Learning and HighScope learning approaches. The samples used in this study consisted of 40 kindergartners from 2 classes, composed of 20 learners in each class, attending from Ban Phochan school and Ban Gudkhae-Nonpowittaya school, Selaphoom District, Roi-Et Province, in the second semester of the academic year of 2015, obtained using the Cluster Random Sampling technique, and random assigned to provide learning with Brain Based Learning and HighScope learning approaches respectively. The instruments used in this research were : 1) instructional plans learning based on Brain Based Learning and HighScope learning approaches, with 20 plans and provided for 45 minutes per each plan ; 2) a 30- items test of mathematical readiness with difficulty (p) ranging 0.23–0.68, discriminating power (r) ranging 0.31–0.74 and a reliability (KR-20) of 0.84 ; 3) a 15- item scale of emotional intelligence of the students, with discriminating power (rxy) ranging 0.36-0.71, and a reliability (α) of 0.86. The statistics used for analysis data were percentage, mean, standard deviation, and F-test (One-way MANOVA) was employed for testing hypothesis. The results of the study were as follows : 1. The efficiencies of instructional plans based on Brain Based Learning and HighScope learning approaches, for kindergartners level 2 were 90.10/86.00 and 90.66/82.66 respectively. 2. The effectiveness indices of those two instructional plans based on Brain Based Learning and HighScope learning approaches were 0.6718 and 0.6133, which indicated that two groups of the learners had progresses in learning at 67.18 and 61.33 percents respectively. 3. The students who learned in both of two groups based on Brain Based Learning and HighScope learning approaches, did not show difference of mathematical readiness, and emotional intelligence.
