Lesson Learned: Writing Textbooks and Academic Books for Academic Positions

Abstract

This article lesson learned from the knowledge imparted by the instructors who conducted the training, combined with the author's own ideas, which are crucial success factors. Since most textbook and academic books authors are educators, writing textbooks and academic books serves as a mirror reflecting the depth of the author's understanding of the subject matter. Broadly, textbooks and academic books differ in two key areas: their target audience and content. Therefore, authors must understand their target audience to design the content of their textbooks and books appropriately. This lesson extraction focuses on the following aspects: 1) self-review 2) understanding textbooks and academic books 3) crystallizing thoughts before writing textbooks and academic books and 4) finding supportive colleagues. It is hoped that this academic article will inspire and encourage those who are about to begin writing textbooks and academic books to push themselves towards creating valuable academic works.
