A STRUCTURAL EQUATION MODEL OF ORGANIZATIONAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL FACTORS AFFECTING THE SPIRITUAL LEADERSHIP OF BASIC EDUCATION SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS IN THAILAND

Abstract
This study aimed to develop and validate a structural equation model of factors affecting the spiritual leadership of school administrators under the Office of the Primary Educational Service Area in Thailand. The research employed a quantitative methodology and structural equation modeling analysis. The sample consisted of 705 school administrators, determined at 5-10 times the number of parameters estimated in the model (Hair et al., 1998). With 69 estimated parameters, the researchers used a ratio of 10 participants per parameter and employed multi-stage sampling using region, province, and school size as stratification variables, followed by simple random sampling. The research instrument was a questionnaire with content validity (IOC) ranging from 0.60 to 1.00, consistent with operational definitions. A pilot test with 30 school administrators revealed that all variables had item discrimination power not lower than 0.361 and reliability (Cronbach's Alpha) ranging from 0.953 to 0.979, exceeding the predetermined criterion of 0.70. Furthermore, construct validity examined through confirmatory factor analysis showed that variables had factor loadings greater than 0.30 with statistical significance. The instrument demonstrated acceptable quality and validity, and data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and SEM. The research findings revealed that the hypothesized model fit the empirical data well, with all variables in the model achieving statistical significance at the .01 level. The variable with the highest influence on spiritual leadership was job satisfaction, followed by productivity and organizational commitment, respectively. Model fit indices were: χ² = 51.428, df = 50, p-value = 0.4176, CFI = 1.000, TLI = 1.000, RMSEA = 0.006, SRMR = 0.012, and χ²/df = 1.03, indicating excellent model fit. The model explained 94.00% of the variance in spiritual leadership (R² = 0.940) and was consistent with the established hypotheses.
