Didactic Contents and Teaching Techniques in “Nang Noppamas”

Abstract

This article aims to study the literature of “Nang Noppamas” in terms of teaching techniques and didactic content.  Furthermore, the objective is to compare the didactic content in “Nang Noppamas” with that of other didactic literature. The results indicate that there are direct, metaphorical, and apological teaching techniques presenting Nang Noppamas as an ideal helpmeet whose performance was like a teacher.The didactic contents were not merely presenting the ideal behavioral norms of a woman who is a king’s helpmeet. They also appear as the core teaching contents suitable for other people in society, especially for men in royal service. These behavioral norms are the guidelines that became conventional beliefs in Thai society for happiness and prosperity and have appeared in many other significant works of didactic literature.
