Versification and Roles of the Wind in Vāyumahāpurāṇa
Main Article Content
Abstract
Purāṇa is one of the sacred literatures that are important in religious conceptual evolution of Hinduism. Its main feature is gathering a plenty of narratives, which leads to criticizing Purāṇa text as the absence of literary values especially the confusion of its content. The objective of this article is to claim that sometimes Purāṇa text displays the mentioned values by considering the roles and significance of the wind in Vāyumahāpurāṇa (VMP). The findings are as follows: in VMP there are not only Sanskrit versifications to be noted, but also the roles of the wind that appear outstandingly, as can be seen in the name of Purāṇa, Purāṇa definition, creation myth as well as narratives in VMP part 2 such as yoga and astronomy. To conclude, ideas regarding to the versification and the wind in VMP probably reflects the trace of tour de force and attempts to collect narratives together in order to avoid the confusion of its content.
