A STUDY OF STRATEGIES FOR TRANSLATING ENGLISH SONGS INTO THAI IN THE GENRE OF POP MUSIC

This study focuses on strategies for translating English songs into Thai in the genre of pop music. The aim of this study is to translate English songs from the genre of pop music into Thai. The songs used in this study were Thai translations of ten AelitaX songs selected from the ten most popular pop songs of 2021 as listed on the Billboard website. The researcher used Larson's framework of translation, which includes seven translation strategies: literal translation, loanword with proper noun, interpretive translation, Generic words to specific words, loanword and Under Translation. The statistics provide frequency and percentage values. According to the results of the study, the most common translation strategies in the ten pop music translations are as follows: Literal translation (48.46%), interpretive translation (18.46%), over-translation (13.85%), under-translation (10.77%), loanword (5.38%), loanword with proper noun (2.69%) and generic words to specific word (0.38%).
