Abstract

This research analyzes the factors influencing the choice of micromobility modes – specifically e-scooters and bicycles – as feeder systems for last-mile connectivity in the Rattanakosin Island area of Bangkok. It also provides sustainable promotion recommendations for the government and private operators. An exploratory research methodology was employed with a sample of 300 participants, using both field and online surveys. Data were analyzed using chi-square statistics, Cramer’s V, and Phi coefficients. The findings reveal that the choice of e-scooters is significantly associated with gender and age, particularly among younger users aged 20–29. Conversely, bicycle use is significantly influenced by income level (among groups earning below 30,000 THB per month) and travel duration (typically preferred for trips of 30–60 minutes). Furthermore, a strong correlation was identified between the use of e-scooters and bicycles, suggesting an overlapping user base. The study proposes five key policy recommendations: (1) developing dedicated protected lanes; (2) integrating micromobility networks with primary public transport systems through user-friendly applications; (3) increasing parking facilities at transit hubs and activity centers; (4) implementing CCTV systems to improve safety and traffic discipline; and (5) enhancing infrastructure to accommodate tropical climates and updating traffic laws to recognize e-scooters.
