Abstract

                  This article is a summary of the qualitative research on “Construction of Young Adults’ Lifestyle in Film: A Case Study of the Film Heart Attack”. It explores the filmHeart Attack (2015) based on the textual analysis method, focusing on how meanings of young adults’ lifestyles in the filmare constructed and interpreted. Moreover, the study examines influencesembedded in the meaning-making processes of the filmby employing various significantconcepts, notions and theories, such as semiology, social construction of reality, generations, young adults, the mode of lifestyle, cinematic narrative storytelling, and auteur theory.
                   The results show that Heart Attack (2015) constructs and shapes the meanings of young adults’ lifestyle around certain aspects, as follows:
                   (1) Career-driven: living the life for career success
                   (2) Pressure: highly competitive work environment
                   (3) Resistance and surrender: an attempt to overcome physical and mental limits to succeed in career; and giving in to being taken advantage of at work
                   (4) Imbalance: failure to balance work and personal life
                   (5) Isolation: absence of family and friendship and indifference to society
                   (6) Nostalgia: longing for the childhood past as an escape from the difficult present
                   (7) Creativity: eager to create something new that may challenge the social norm
                   Moreover, the results show that the director is the most influentia in constructing the meanings in the filmas he tends to subtly apply his attitudes and personal past experiences through filmnarrative and characters which leads to new understanding of young adults’ lifestyles.
