“Creative Space” The Mechanism of Participatory Communication for Thai Youth’s Citizenship Building

“Creative space” is a campaigning concept using participatory communication to open up youths’ chances to initiate, design and organise activities according to their need and lifestyle. The research on the impact of creative space on youths’ citizenship indicates that youths who led and continuously participated in creative space operations has developed the mental framework of citizenship reflecting from their self-awareness, difference awareness, responsibility awareness and global awareness. Their engagement and action was also evident in the aspect of self-action, civic action and social justice action. Thus, the “creative space” approach can be seen as a “process innovation” that uses participatory communication as the main mechanism to foster Thai youths’ sense and action of citizenship.
