Abstract

                  This article explores the current situation of Thai television industry observed by the author during the transition of the television industry to access the digital television. The objective of this article is to analyze the background of entrepreneurs who are granted digital television’s license. It is to study whether or not their backgrounds relevant to their success. The article categorizes the entrepreneurs into 2 groups: (1) those who have experiences in running the television station business, and (2) those who are newcomers in the television industry. The study found that successful entrepreneurs are the ones who used to operate television stations; for example, Channel 3 and Channel 7 which run free TV stations,or Workpoint TV channel, Channel 8 and MONO 29 channel which own satellite channels. Their experiences have equipped them with the know-how management to make successful programs. Moreover, their experiences in budget planning and broadcast scheduling that enable them to achieve in the business. They also know how to differentiate themselves from the rest. More importantly, they have audiences who follow them from their previous channels to their digital television channels. As mentioned, these are key to success in comparison with inexperience television business entrepreneurs.
