Abstract

                  This article aims to illustrate the usage of archaeology of knowledge methodology by Michel Foucault applied in communications studies. This methodology explains the important role of communication field as the area of knowledge and power that circulate in any societal history. The constitution of objects’ status from defining words, meanings and their relations are connected with the power of social institutions and the deep rules of knowledge from many disciplines. These elements are revealed after using the archaeology of knowledge methodology in communication arena such as documents of written words or spoken speeches. If these documents can be identified in the periods of their emergences, they all will be used for this methodology. 
                   The usage of archaeology of knowledge methodology in communication studies can be started with rejecting some patterns of continuities in order to reduce biases in statements. The statement is considered as the smallest unit of analysis composed in all documents. The contents of this study can be both documents of written words or collections of speeches which have been produced from any periods. These communication materials are the stages of emergence of objects of any discourse or knowledge. Then, the duty of archaeologists of knowledge is the excavation of some relations under objects of the discourse such as deep rules of knowledge as the grid of specification for these objects and the power of institutions allowing their repre-sentatives to constitute and circulate the objects of some knowledge of discourse in any periods of society.
