Rumour…Neither True Nor False?: A Review of Rumour as the Weapon of the Weak

Several studies point out that rumour communication on the digital platform is possibly one of the variables which empower power-maginalised persons to make change to their society. Yet, some cast a doubt on it as believing rumour is not trustworthy and the authorities are responsible to “eliminate” it from the communication system.
This article aims to review the status of rumour (true, false, ambivalence or else) by tracking back to the past studies of rumour, making sense about the life cycle of rumour and introducing the case study “Pha Tub Rod” to coin the new perceptive; rumour as the weapon of the weak.
