Pornographic Video: More than Sexual Pleasures

This article aims to point out that a pornographic video is part of popular culture, which can be studied and analyzed as well as other forms of it. The article is presenting the status and arguments about porn studies, which is not a research article. Critical approaches through feminist perspective, cultural studies, and sexuality studies are the core methodology of the study to analyze a pornographic video, which helps illustrate the porn’s functions and other different viewpoints than those from the age of porn education in the dimensions of the structure and function of the media (functionalism. For example, they are, first, the uses and gratifications approach of pornography. Secondly, they are psychological study of the impact of porn use (impact theory), such as questioning whether pornography causes imitation behavior or a positive result in psychotherapy. Thirdly, they are normative theory, such as analyzing of the pornography in deviating human sexuality from the social norms. The analysis of elements of porn was analyzed in the same way as that of film analysis, using a critical theoretical framework to explain the phenomena, which indicates that the code meaning of each element contained in the porn represents a space for resistance to power, same as any other form of popular culture.
