Communication and the Meaning of Same-Sex Marriage in Thai Society

Abstract

                The life experiences of homosexual people have been shaped differently through the influence of socialization factors and other related processes. Therefore, the creation of a definition or a set of meaning for society shall have a direction in line with the social processes that create the meaning of same-sex marriage or it could be a conflicting idea as well. This article aimed to show the relationship of homosexual couple through definitions form various institutes in Thai society, in which the author used communication and cultural studies as the main structure to explain the connection of the relationship of homosexual couples in various institutes of Thailand that helped defining the meaning of a marriage, as well as the values of traditions and cultures. Moreover, this article also aimed to explain the power relationships of sexual relations in Thai society between the set of ideas on the relationship between sexes that could not be met half-way. That is to say, when the society defined an ideal on accepting homosexual people, but found that such an acceptance and definition is for a specific group in society. Cultivating the notion of sexual relations and homosexual relationships are still addressed in cultures, values, traditions, and institutions in the society and was brought up as a separate subject, which is the gender discrimination. Anyhow, the learning process of sexual relations in the society still has a number of factors to distinguish inequality, including the implementation of social activities in which everyone has the right to use space to do activities through social and cultural context.
