摘要

บทความนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อวิเคราะห์การสร้างคำภาษาอังกฤษที่เกิดขึ้นในระยะที่มีการแพร่ระบาดของเชื้อไวรัสโคโรนาสายพันธุ์ใหม่ 2019 ที่ปรากฏในสื่อออนไลน์ของประเทศไทย และจัดหมวดหมู่ทางความหมายของคำดังกล่าว โดยนำแนวคิดทางภาษาศาสตร์ในเรื่องการสร้างคำในสาขาวิทยาหน่วยคำ (Morphology) ความหมายในสาขาอรรถศาสตร์ (Semantics) มาเป็นกรอบในการอธิบาย และนำเสนอข้อสังเกตของการใช้คำดังกล่าวด้วยแนวคิดความถูกต้องทางการเมือง (Political correctness) ในสาขาภาษาศาสตร์สังคม (Sociolinguistics) ผลการศึกษาพบว่าคำต่าง ๆ เกิดจากกระบวนการสร้างคำ 6 กระบวนการ ได้แก่ การประสมคำ (compounding) การยืมคำ (borrowing) การแปลง (derivation) การหลอมคำ (blending) คำย่อ (acronyms) และการใช้กระบวนการสร้างคำหลายกระบวนการร่วมกัน (multiple processes) โดยเป็นการนำคำที่มีใช้อยู่แล้วในภาษามาสื่อความหมายใหม่ในบริบทที่เฉพาะเจาะจงขึ้น ทำให้ความหมายกว้างออก ซึ่งเกิดจากกระบวนการทางความหมายทั้งแบบอุปลักษณ์และนามนัย คำที่พบสามารถจัดหมวดหมู่ทางความหมายได้ 10 หมวดหมู่ ได้แก่ การปฏิบัติตัว การป้องกัน อุปกรณ์ การตรวจโรค คน/กลุ่มคน สถานที่ การแพร่ระบาด ชื่อวัคซีน ชื่อเชื้อไวรัสโควิด-19 และโรค/อาการที่เกิดขึ้นสืบเนื่องจากสถานการณ์โรคโควิด-19 นอกจากนี้ ยังพบว่าแม้แต่ตัวอักษรก็มีการนำมาใช้เพื่อสื่อความหมายได้เช่นกันเพื่อเลี่ยงการตีตราและการกล่าวโทษคนหรือกลุ่มคนกลุ่มใดกลุ่มหนึ่ง
