Development of Online Social Media with Self-Directed Reading Instruction Affecting Reading Behaviors of Undergraduate

Abstract

This research aims to: 1) develop online social media with self- directed reading instruction affecting reading behaviors of undergraduate students. 2) Comparison of reading behavior before and after learning through online social media with self- directed reading instruction, 3) study academic achievement before and after learning online social media with self- directed reading instruction, and 4) study the students’ satisfaction towards the online social media with self- directed reading instruction. The sample were of first year undergraduate students of Faculty of Technical Education, Department of Educational Technology and Communications Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi who registered for the Instructional Packages course, semester 1 of the academic year 2016, totaling 30 students, which were obtained by purposive sampling. The research instruments consisted of online social media with self- directed reading instruction, evaluation form regarding the media and contents, achievement tests, reading behaviors tests, and evaluation forms of students’ satisfaction. The statistics used to analyze the data were    mean, standard deviation, and dependent sample t-test. The results showed that: 1) the online social media with self-directed reading instruction had efficiency level of 80.25/81.44, which meets the set criterion. 2) the students had reading behaviors after studying with online social media with self- directed reading instruction was higher than before studying has an average of 3.70. 3) the students had achievement after studying than before with statistical significance at the .05 level and when considering the post-test mean scores after studying with an average of 24.43 and the pre-test mean score has an average of 17.43. and 4) The students were very satisfied with online social media with self- directed reading instruction the overall was at a high level, has an average of 3.89.
