The electronic rare book repository development provides the users with comfortable accessibility and may lead to future frontier research. This study aims to design and develop a rare book repository using a concept of design thinking process and to assess the rare book repository system of Ratchamangkhalapisek National Library, Chiang Mai. The design thinking concept of Stanford d.school was applied in this research and development research (R and D research) in order to develop a rare book repository. The interview form and evaluation were used to collect data as research tools. The result shows that the overall satisfaction level of the users was at a high level in terms of content and at a very high level in terms of system. That was because the menu was well-designed, easy to use, and can be easily seen. Moreover, the information searching system was accurate according to the users’ needs. The concept of design thinking that focused on human-centered design created a system that answers the users’ needs, as well as generate new perspectives. Also, the design thinking concept could be applied with other processes in the system development cycle since it could enhance the efficiency of a rare book repository system and appropriate to the needs of users.
