An Analysis of Themes in Tales Written by Early Childhood Pre-Service Teachers Corresponding to the 8 Basic Virtues

Abstract

The purpose of this research article is to present the results of the analysis of themes in Tales written by Early Childhood Pre-Service Teachers that it consists of which aspect of the Eight Fundamental moralities. The research instrument is a table for analyzing themes in the tales written under the framework of the Eight Fundamental Moralities from Thai Ministry of Education. The researcher used a purposive sampling method to define a sample group which consisted of 30 tales written by 30 students in the second year of Early Childhood Education Major, Faculty of Education, Phetchaburi Rajabhat University. (The tales were written by students who have no experience in writing tales before.) This research collected data in the second semester of the academic year 2022 (16–21 March 2023).  The statistics used in data analysis are percentages. The quantitative results showed that themes in the tales written by pre-service teachers are 60% about kindness, followed by 26.66% of unity, 6.66% of honesty, 3.33% of frugality and 3.33% of politeness. Diligence, discipline, and cleanliness were not found in the themes in the tales in this research. The qualitative results portrayed the various data obtained from the analysis. These will be beneficial for applying the research results to develop further in creating a variety of tales in the future.
