Development of Reading Skills in Basic Thai Word of Grade 2 Students Using Games

Abstract

The purposes of this study were: 1) to develop an educational game for Grade 2 students with an effectiveness criterion of 80/80, and 2) to investigate the effect of the game on the development of basic word reading skills. This study employed a quasi-experimental research methodology. The target group consisted of 25 Grade 2 students from Mala-eesangkhon School, selected through purposive sampling. The research instruments included: 1) the developed educational game, 2) lesson plans, and 3) a basic word reading skills assessment. The statistical methods used in the study were the calculation of the innovation's effectiveness using the  formula, mean (M), standard deviation (SD), and the percentage of progress. The research findings revealed that: 1) The effectiveness of the developed educational game was 81.45/86, which met the 80/80 criterion, and 2) The basic word reading skill of the students before the lessons had a mean score of 10.08, and after the lessons, the mean score increased to 15.88, with the progress percentage of 29, which meets the satisfactory criterion of 25%. This indicates that the educational game effectively enhanced the basic word reading skills of Grade 2 students.
