Abstract

The purposes of this research were to: 1) develop training exercises for enhancing string ensemble skills among students based on Rong-Ngeng music; 2) determine the efficiency of the developed training exercises based on the 80/80 criterion; and 3) investigate students’ satisfaction with the learning management using training exercises. Participants were selected through purposive sampling and comprised 25 string ensemble students at Tessaban 5 School (Wat Hua Pom Nok), Songkhla Province. The research instruments consisted of:  1) four sets of training exercises for string ensemble skills using the Essential Elements for Strings approach with Rong-Ngeng songs; 2) one quality assessment form for the training exercise sets; and 3) a student satisfaction questionnaire. We analyzed the data using the mean, standard deviation, percentage, index of item-objective congruence (IOC), and efficiency analysis. The results showed that training exercises for string ensemble skills based on Rong-Ngeng music were rated as highly appropriate (M = 4.70, SD = 0.28). The training exercise sets achieved an efficiency of 81.30/83.70, meeting the established criterion of 80/80. In addition, students’ satisfaction with the learning management using the developed training exercises was highest (M = 4.79, SD = 0.43). The results underscore that training exercises based on Rong-Ngeng music effectively enhance string ensemble skills and foster appreciation for local folk music traditions.
