Developing Students Systematic Thinking and Problem- Solving Skills Using Project-Based Learning in Science Subject of General Education Courses

Abstract

The study to 1) compare learning results using project-based learning methods on scientific thinking processes, 2) evaluate thinking and solving problems skills with the project evaluation form and 3) evaluate student satisfaction towards the learning model using project as a base. The samples group was the 150 students enrolled in Innovation and Scientific Thinking Subject, General Education Program using purposive selection. The tools used in this research were: the pre-test and post-test which all were in the title of “Scientific Method”, the “Project Evaluation” form, and the questionnaire which was in the title of “Satisfaction of Students to the Project-Based Learning”. The statistics used in this research was the Percentage, the Mean, the Standard Deviation and the t-test for dependent samples. It was found that 1) the students got the average higher learning outcomes in post-test (gif.latex?\bar{\chi&space;} = 84.72) than in pre-test (gif.latex?\bar{\chi&space;} = 60.94) with the statistically significant at level .05, 2) the students could manage a project based on their interested and then can be evaluated the systematically thinking skills according to criteria of 80 percent, and 3) the satisfaction of students to the project-based learning in classroom was at the high level in both the quality of teaching and learning management of teachers, and the learning support equipment aspects.
