The Internship Management and the Opinions of Students and Establishments in the Internship in Accounting Course by the Accounting Program of the Faculty of Commerce and Management, Prince of Songkla University, Trang Campus During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Abstract

The objectives of this study were to 1) examine the internship management of the Accounting Program of the Faculty of Commerce and Management, 2) compare the opinions of interns towards the management before and during the COVID-19 pandemic, and 3) compare the establishments’ opinions towards the interns before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study employed the mixed method and collected data from three population groups, including four lecturers responsible for the course, 667 students registering for internships in the 2/2019 and 3/2020 semesters, 344 questionnaire respondents, and 254 establishments in areas which the interns worked in and were approved by the lecturers. Descriptive data analysis was used for analyzing general data. The statistics employed included frequency distribution, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and Independent t-test. The results revealed the following points: 1) the internship management process and evaluation methods were adjusted following the COVID-19 situation and orders of relevant agencies, 2) The comparisons of the interns’ opinions towards internships before and during the COVID-19 pandemic revealed no differences, with mean values of 4.25 and 4.16, and 3) the comparison of the establishments’ opinions towards the interns before and during the COVID-19 pandemic were statistically significant at the 0.05 level, with mean values of 4.44 and 4.58. Therefore, internship management process enables students to achieve their learning outcomes. The accounting program adjusts the course management following circumstances, provide communication channels, and devise a follow-up process.
