The Relationship Between Creativity and Innovation Assessed Through Synectics Based and Practical Activities in Computer Education Among Lower Secondary School Students

Abstract

This study aimed to improve the quality of instructional practices by integrating the Synectics teaching model with experiential learning activities to enhance students’ creativity and innovativeness. The objectives were: (1) to develop learning activities based on the Synectics model combined with practical application, (2) to investigate the relationship between students’ creativity and their innovation capacity after participating in learning activities using the Synectics model with practical components, and (3) to assess students’ satisfaction with the implemented instructional model. The target group comprised 30 lower secondary students enrolled in the “Learning Skills” course at the Demonstration School of Udon Thani Rajabhat University during the first semester of the 2024 academic year. Participants were selected through simple random sampling. The research instruments included six Synectics based activity plans, a creativity assessment tool, an innovation evaluation form, and a satisfaction questionnaire. The implementation period lasted six weeks. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including means and standard deviations, as well as via Pearson’s product-moment correlation coefficient. The findings revealed that: (1) the developed learning activities achieved an efficiency level of 77.39/77.52, indicating high instructional effectiveness; (2) there was a statistically significant positive correlation between students’ creativity and their innovation scores; and (3) students expressed a high level of satisfaction with the instructional model, suggesting that the Synectics model combined with practical learning effectively supports the development of creativity, innovativeness, and provides positive learning experiences.
