The Development of Trombone Practical Skill Instructional Package for the Beginners Based on Dalcroze Approach

Abstract

This research aims to develop a trombone practical skill instructional package together with learning materials for the beginners learner in Khon Kaen Province based on Dalcroze approach. This research employed mixed method approach. The research instruments included a pre-learning, inter-learning, post-learning and evaluation forms, as well as an observation form during the learning. The target group was 7 trombone learners in Khon Kaen Province. The collected data from the the evaluation forms and the observation forms were analyzed by using descriptive statistics consisting of percentage, mean and standard deviation. Then conducted the content analysis to yield inferences from documents, literature, observation and other information.

This research results indicated that: 1) the data analysis of the 7 students’s self-assessment t on trombone skills both before and during the study, the average score before the study was 46.8, the average score during the study was 77. 2) The data analysis of the researcher’s assessment on trombone skills of the students both before and during the study, the average score before the study was 35., the average score during the study was 88.3. 3) The data analysis of post-learning exercise set in Chapter 10, the average score was 75.7, which passed the criterion of 75/75, validating the effectiveness of the learning package. 4) After the theory course, all students were able to answer all subjective questions correctly. 5) Observational data during the course, all students developed skills in scale, chromatic scale and arpeggio, tonguing, lip slurs and multiple tonguing, in terms of rapid development. Whereas, air system, mouthpiece buzzing and positions still have errors from forgetfulness, however still in the spectrum of rapid development.
