An Online Vocabulary Lesson to Enhance Adjective Knowledge for the TOEIC

Abstract
The aim of this research was threefold 1) to study the types of frequent adjectives in the TOEIC, 2) to study the collocations of frequent adjectives in the TOEIC, and 3) develop an online vocabulary lesson to enhance TOEIC adjective knowledge. The sample consisted of 30 sets of TOEIC reading tests. Frequent adjectives and their collocations were analyzed using the AntConc program. Thirty third- and fourth-year students were selected by purposive sampling to test the efficiency of the online vocabulary lesson. The study found that the 200 most frequent adjectives, such as available, free, good, last, local, many, new, online, and other, several, occurred with nouns, adverbs, verbs, and prepositions, such as available for, interested in, last year, and new location. The online vocabulary lesson developed based on these findings was tested with the sample group. The results showed that the average post-test score reflected a 15 percent improvement. Ninety percent showed an increase in their scores, 3.33 percent maintained the same score, and 6.66 percent experienced a decrease. The efficiency test of online lessons based on Meguigans' concept yielded an efficiency value of 1.36, indicating that the developed online vocabulary lessons are effective for learning TOEIC vocabulary.
