Abstract

This study aimed to achieve two main objectives. The first was to develop an innovation to enhance the advanced reading ability of Grade 7 students at Dongsawangwittaya School through the integration of the Royal Compositions of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. The second was to investigate the effects of the innovation on advanced reading ability among Grade 7/1 students. The study examined four aspects: students’ achievement in advanced reading, their ability in advanced reading, their learning behaviors in developing advanced reading ability, and teachers’ instructional practices to promote advanced reading ability as perceived by the students.

The participants consisted of 39 Grade 7/1 students from Dongsawangwittaya School. The learning process was implemented in the Thai Language subject through 10 lesson plans, each lasting one hour, totaling 10 hours, conducted between July and September 2025. The instruments employed included an innovation quality evaluation form, an advanced reading ability test, an advanced reading ability assessment form, a learning behavior evaluation form, and an instructional observation form. Data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and content analysis.

The findings revealed that the developed innovation, consisting of five components and four steps, was rated at the highest level of quality (x̅ = 5.00). Students’ post-test scores in advanced reading ability were significantly higher than their pre-test scores, with a mean difference of 14.59. Their advanced reading ability was at a highly proficient level, with an average score of 40.14. Learning behaviors related to developing advanced reading ability were rated at a very good level (x̅ = 2.42). Furthermore, instructional practices for enhancing advanced reading ability, as perceived by the students, were rated at a high level (x̅ = 4.20).
