THE CRITICAL STUDY OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE LANGUAGE AND THE ENLIGHTENMENT IN THERAVADA BUDDHIST PHILOSOPHY

Abstract

In  this  paper,  the  researcher  presents  the  critical  study  of  the  relationship  between  the  language  and  the  enlightenment  in  Theravada  Buddhist  Philosophy.  The  theory of  the language philosophy  means  the ordinary language,  but  it means the  language in  Theravada  Buddhist  Philosophy.  The  important  outcome  of  the  research  can  be  summarized  as  follows :-

1. The language  and  the  Scriptural  studying  mean   the  teaching of  the texts  to be studied  by  the  students  about  the  textual or scriptural teaching  by  the  listening, the  thinking  and  the  practicing. In  this  case, the  Scriptural  languages  become  the  philosophy  languages  which  are  discussed   by someone  with  interpretation.  In  Theravada  Buddhist  Philosophy, these  problems  were  solved  by  the  Enlightened  men.  The  Scriptural  languages  have  been interpreted to  build  up  the  understanding  of  the facts,  but  it  should  not  be believed  that  it  was the reality.
2. the  language  and the  practice  mean  the  teaching to be practiced  to  lead  to  the reality  and  not  to  be  interpreted.  There  is  a  question  that  the Buddha  teaches  the  Doctrine  until the listeners enlighten.  Therefore,  the  enlightenment  depend on the  language,  because  the  people  were  enlightened  by  the  language in  the  text  or  the  words  given  by  the  teachers.  The  language  occurred  after  the  practice  called  the Dhamma language  which  was to  be  understood  by  the  practices  about  the  mentality  and  the  development  of  the  lives  according  to  the  principle  of  the  Middle Path  until  the  Enlightenment.
