FACTORS AFFECTING LEARNING ACHIEVEMENT IN SOCIAL STUDIES TEACHING OF STUDENTS IN MAHACHULALONGKORNRAJAVIDYALAYA UNIVERSITY SURIN CAMPUS

The objectives of this research were 1) to study factors affecting to the learning achievement of the subject of Social Studies Teaching, and 2) to study problems and solutions to learning and teaching in Social Studies Teaching subject of the undergraduates of Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya university, Surin campus. It was the descriptive research. The samples were 33 persons obtained by cluster sampling. The research instruments used were students’learning behavior record, pre-test and post-test, interview, and questionnaires. The research findings were found as follows:
- The factors affecting to the learning achievement were; 1) the factor of lecturer’s methods of teaching i.e. (1) positive teaching (2) planning with students (3) informing the learning objectives (4) developing on the aspects of physics, emotion, society, and intellect, and (5) Buddhist principles i.e. good behavior, good knowledge, and good teaching; 2) the factor of students’ learning methods such as regularly attending to the classroom; and 3) the factor of environment i.e. good friends.
- Problems and solutions of learning and teaching were as follows;
1.1.The students’ problems were 1) coming to the class without preparation 2) being unanimous to the studies 3) being absent very often to the class 4) late submitting assignment 5) lacking of intention 6) less in seeking the additional knowledge.
1.2.The solutions to learning and teaching were as follows; 1) the lecturer should use various methods of teaching such as lecture, demonstration, question and answer, and individual intention 2) teaching by emphasizing the practice ๓) field trip studies 4) students had to prepare themselves before coming to the class 5) students should finish the assignment 6) students should prepare the questions to ask the lecture 7) students should attend the class regularly 8) students should apply the scholar’s principle of learning i.e. listening (Su), thinking (Ci), questioning (Pu), and writing (Li).
