A STUDY OF LIFE AND ROLE IN BUDDHIST TEACHING OF PHRAKHRU PRASART PHRAMMAKHUN (HONG PHRAMMAPANYO) WAT PETBURI PRASART DISTRICT SURIN PROVINCE

Abstract

The objectives of this research were to study 1) life of Phrakhruprasatphrommakhun (Hong Phrammapanyo) 2) principle and method of Theravada Buddhism propagation and 3) principle and method of Buddhism propagation of Phrakhruprasatphrommakhun (Hong Phrommapanyo). The findings of research are as follows;

               Phrakhruprasatphrommakhun (Hong Phrammapanyo) is the elder monk who has got well religious conduct and conservation, and has brought growth to the community. He is merciful to the people who came to search blessing from him without bias. He has devoted himself in all works of the Sangha i.e. governing, education, propagation, public assistance, special education assistance, and community welfare. Besides, he encouraged people to preserve the forest for the country property.

               There were various principles and methods of propagation in Theravada Buddhism. Different disciples of the Buddha had got different aptitudes in propagation of the Buddha’s teachings such as conducting themselves to be admired, Dhamma discussion, advising, question answering, and Dhamma teaching. In term of the principles and methods of Dhamma propagation, the Buddha used appropriate ways of which suitable to the circumstances i.e. Dhamma discussion, answering question, and regulations.

               Phrakhruprasatphrommakhun (Hong Phrammapanyo)has used simple method to teach Buddhist followers with daily life principles of Dhamma such as the five precepts, gratefulness, and right livelihood, etc. Even though he concerns with sacred objects, he has taught his followers to use the sacred objects in the right way; that is to encourage themselves with the five precepts, gratefulness, and so on. It can be said that on the method of Dhamma dissemination, Phrakhruprasatphrommakhun (Hong Phrammapanyo) has emphasized on the five precepts and gratefulness, etc. He also preserves the forest for the next generation.
