THE DEVELOPMENT OF ENGLISH READING ABILITIES THROUGH THE SQ6R TECHNIQUE OF GRADE 7 STUDENTS

Abstract

This research aimed to 1) study the efficiency of learning management using the SQ6R technique for Grade 7 students, with a target efficiency of 80/80, 2) compare the students’ reading abilities before and after implementing the SQ6R, 3) towards the use of the SQ6R method in improving reading abilities. The sample group consisted of 30 Grade 7 students from Somdej School, studying in the second semester of the 2024 academic year. The selection was made using cluster random sampling. The research tools included 1) 5 learning plans using the SQ6R method, 2) a multiple-choice test comprising 30 items to measure reading abilities skills, and 3) a questionnaire on students’ satisfaction with learning management using the SQ6R method. The data analysis statistics were mean, percentage, standard deviation, and efficiency determination (E1/E2) and Dependent Sample t-test"

The results of the study were as follows:

1. The learning management plans using the SQ6R method for Grade 7 students were effective, with a performance of 89.29/84.67, meeting the set criteria of 80/80
2. The comparative results of the learning achievements before and after the study showed that students who received learning management using the SQ6R had significantly improved reading abilities at a significance level of .05
3. The study of the satisfaction level of Grade 7 students who learned through the SQ6R technique was at the highest level, with an average score of 4.89 and a standard deviation of 0.15
