The Development of Preaching Skills Based on the Principles of Buddhist Teaching Methods of the Novice Council, Wat Srinuan, Khon Kaen Province

Abstract

This research aimed to (1) develop preaching skills based on the principles of Buddhist teaching methods for the Novice Council at Wat Srinuan, Khon Kaen Province, and (2) assess the satisfaction toward the development of preaching skills based on the principles of Buddhist teaching methods of the Novice Council at Wat Srinuan, Khon Kaen Province. The target group consisted of 30 novices who were members of the Novice Council at Wat Srinuan, Khon Kaen Province. The research instruments included (1) a training manual for developing preaching skills based on the principles of Buddhist teaching methods, and (2) a satisfaction evaluation form toward the development of preaching skills based on the principles of Buddhist teaching methods of the Novice Council at Wat Srinuan, Khon Kaen Province. The statistics used in this research were basic statistics: mean, standard deviation (S.D.), and Dependent t-test. The research results were as follows: (1). The pre-training test had an average score of 65.10, while the post-training test had an average score of 73.00. A comparison of the preaching skill development based on Buddhist teaching principles before and after the training showed that the novices who underwent the training had significantly higher preaching skills at the .05 level of statistical significance. (2). Satisfaction with the development of preaching skills based on the principles of Buddhist teaching methods of the Novice Council at Wat Srinuan, Khon Kaen Province, was at the highest level overall, with a mean score of 4.70. In the aspect of ethics and morality, the mean score was 4.80 (highest level); in the aspect of activity organization, 4.72 (highest level); and in the aspect of content, 4.57.
