The Development of Reading and Analytical Thinking of the Dasa-Jataka Stories for the First-Year Secondary School Students

Abstract

This research is a quasi-experimental study with the following objectives: 1. to develop reading and analytical thinking skills of the Dasa-Jataka tales for the first-year secondary school students; 2. to compare the results of reading and analytical thinking skills of the Dasa-Jataka tales for the first-year secondary school students; 3. to study students' satisfaction with learning to read and analyze the Dasa-Jataka stories the first-year secondary school students. The target group used in this research consists of 40 the first-year secondary school students from Tedsaban 4 School (Phoachum), Nai Mueang Subdistrict, Mueang Nakhon Ratchasima District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, selected through purposive sampling. The research tools included: 1. a learning management plan comprising 16 sessions focused on teaching reading, thinking, and analyzing the Dasa-Jataka tales for the first-year secondary school students; 2. a multiple-choice test with 40 questions designed to measure reading and analytical thinking abilities for the first-year secondary school students; 3. a questionnaire to assess students' satisfaction with learning to read and analyze the Dasa-Jataka stories for the first-year secondary school students. The research results found that: 1. The efficiency of reading and analyzing the Jataka tales for the first-year secondary school students at Tedsaban 4 School (Phoachum) met the set criteria of 80/80, achieving 82.58/83.56. 2. The pre-test and post-test scores on reading and analytical thinking of the Jataka stories for 40 the first-year secondary school students at Tedsaban 4 School (Phoachum) indicated that students' post-test scores were higher than their pre-test scores, with an increase of 83.56 percent. It can be concluded that the post-test scores were statistically significantly higher than the pre-test scores at the .05 level.
