THE DEVELOPING OF READING COMPREHENSION BY THINK-PAIR-SHARE TECHIQUE FOR 8TH GRADE STUDENTS

Abstract

          The purpose of this research is 1) to study the effect of the Think-Pair-Share Technique to the reading comprehension of 8th Grade students at the criterion of 75 percentage of the full marks. 2) to compare the pretest and posttest scores of 8th Grade students to evaluate the effectiveness of the Think-Pair-Share Technique. The respondents used in this research consisted of 38 Grade 8 students enrolled in the second semester of the academic year 2020 at Phadungpanya School, Tak. They were selected using purposive sampling. The data were analyzed for frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation and Index of item-objective congruence or IOC.

Research findings were as follows;

1. There was a significant difference of 0.5 in the pre and post test of the respondents. The recorded pretest mean was 9.97. Whereas, after applying the Think-Pair-Share Technique, the recorded mean was 17.42.


2. The research findings indicated that before the respondents were taught using the Think-Pair-Share Technique, the mean is 9.97, standard deviation is 2.20, with an average of 49.87%. However, after they were taught using the Think-Pair-Share Technique, the mean increased by 17.42, standard deviation is 2.52, and increased by 87.11%. There was a relative difference of 37.24% in the respondents' reading comprehension.
