The Study of Folklore for the Development of Summary Writing Ability Based on the CIPPA Instructional Model

Abstract

This research aimed to: (1) develop a learning management plan using Thai folktales to enhance summary writing skills through the CIPPA learning process, and (2) compare students’ learning achievement before and after the implementation of the learning management plan. The sample group was purposefully selected and consisted of 18 Grade 4 students from classes 4/1 and 4/2 at Tessaban 4 School (Amorn Saphianchai Uthit). The research instruments included: (1) a learning management plan integrating Thai folktale to enhance summary writing skills using the CIPPA learning process, (2) a learning plan quality assessment form, and (3) pre-test and post-test instruments to measure academic achievement. The statistics used were percentage, mean, standard deviation, and the dependent samples t-test. The research findings revealed that: (1) the overall quality of the learning management plan using folktales and the CIPPA learning process was rated at a high level (𝑥̅ = 3.80), and (2) the learning achievement results, assessed using a dependent samples t-test, showed that the pre-test average score met the criteria at 61.67%, while the post-test score met the criteria at 84.17%. This indicates that students’ academic achievement after the intervention was significantly higher than before.
