The Development of Analytical Reading Skills Through Cooperative Learning Activities Using the CIRC Model for Matthayomsuksa 3 Students

Abstract

The objectives of this research are:  1. to develop a plan for organizing learning activities with collaborative groups in the CIRC style that impacts the analytical reading ability of the third-year secondary school students to be effective according to the 80/80 criteria; 2. to compare the analytical reading abilities of the third-year secondary school students using the CIRC collaborative group before and after studying. The sample group consisted of the third-year secondary school students at Khao Phra Non Witthayakhom School, Khao Phra Non-Subdistrict, Yang Talat District, Kalasin Province, under the Office of the Secondary Educational Service Area 24, Kalasin Province, 2nd semester, 2023. The sample included 1 classroom with 30 students. The research tools were:  1. a learning management plan for developing the analytical reading abilities of the third-year secondary school students using the CIRC cooperative group learning management plan, consisting of 6 plans, 2 hours per plan, totaling 12 hours of teaching; 2. an analytical reading achievement test for the third-year secondary school students created by the researcher, which was a multiple-choice type with four answer options, totaling 30 questions. The researcher analyzed the data as follows:  1. basic statistics, including percentage, mean, and standard deviation of scores from the content subtest, group work behavior, and achievement test. This was done to study the learning management using collaborative groups like CIRC; 2. the effectiveness of the learning management plan for developing analytical reading abilities of the third-year secondary school students using the CIRC cooperative group learning, evaluated according to the 80/80 criteria using the formula to find E1/E2 values; 3. the effectiveness index of the learning management plan was analyzed for the development of the reading ability of the third-year secondary school students using the CIRC cooperative group learning management, using the formula to find the E.I value; 4. comparison of test scores before and after the class using a t-test (Dependent Samples).  The research results were as follows:  1. The analytical reading learning activity plan using CIRC cooperative group learning showed an efficiency of 83.79/82.73, higher than the set criteria of 80/80. 2. The third-year secondary school students who used the analytical reading learning activity plan with CIRC cooperative group learning management achieved higher academic performance after studying than before, with statistical significance at the .05 level. g management, using the formula to find the E.I value; 4. comparison of test scores before and after the class using a t-test (Dependent Samples).
